A chip off the ole block

It's amazing having a little one running around the house these days trying to act out what he sees mommy and daddy do. For instance, most people know how much I enjoy golf. And because I don't get to go hit golf balls or play much anymore, I really enjoy just swinging the golf club in my living room while I watch TV. Well, wouldn't you know it, my little buddy got his own golf club from grandma and grandpa and he's hitting the ball around the house all the time. Of course I want to encourage him to be the next Tiger Woods, I'll wait till he gets older though, but it is so much fun to watch him imitate what daddy is doing.

Even more amazing is his diligence in praying before our evening meal. Kristi and I have made it a point to pray and encourage him to join us as well. So he says "pray" and bows his little head and folds his hands together and goes..."blah, blah, blah". And of course he looks up to make sure you are watching him pray.

If only imitating our heavenly Father was as easy as seeing Nathan imitate me. Yet, this lesson living out daily as a reminder through my 20 month old is so encouraging to me. He merely imitates without hesitation, thought or a care in the world. And he does it because he knows that he is loved.

What habits are you working on that imitate God? Jesus's life gives us the perfect example of living life in imitation of our Father, yet the cares of this world seem to get in the way from taking the time to sacrifice to make ourself more like Him. For we are encouraged to live by the faith of a child, who merely sees and imitates Him who cares for us. You are His beloved. Imitate Him today.

"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God". Ephesians 5:1-2

What is this all about?

What is life about? What am I doing here? What is my purpose? For all of us, these questions ring loudly in the quietness of our mind when we finally take the chance to sit still in hopes of figuring something out that has never dawned on us before. In college, I remember just one word giving me meaning for why I was even put here on this earth. Maybe by the title of this blog you have already figured out what this very word is, but if you're a little slow like me, it's HOPE.

What do I want my life to be about? What is the very thing that will bring me the most joy and fulfillment in life? Sadly, I was taught that money would buy you happiness and security. I was taught that a good education was the key to opening the doors to success and happiness surely followed with it. And of course I could go on and on about all the lessons I learned from my upbringing just as you could, while coming to the conclusion that we are probably more disillusioned than we thought we would have been in the beginning. While I believe many of these lessons have truth in them, I also realize that nothing on this earth I can attain by my own labor will ever bring me happiness, contentment and true joy unless it involves giving others hope. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I'm compelled to share this simple message of what a personal relationship with Christ is all about and how there is nothing better in this world than to trust the Creator of it. Yet, I fail constantly. And again I am reminded as another day passes about how I miss living out my life's mission of giving others hope who are truly seeking something that is greater than themselves. If you truly find yourself saying yes to that statement, this blog is for you.

So here I am. Starting a blog that might give someone just a little bit of hope they didn't have before to keep on keeping on. The things I will share are personal revelations I've learned through God's Word, personal stories and just plain thoughts. Of course, we all have our own opinions and mine is merely one in this big world, so as a reader you can take it for what it is worth.

So now, my hope to write and share, is challenged to take a step of faith and reach others with just a little bit of hope.
